Welcome to a new segment on Bonka Bird Toys called Checking Out Cages. Today, we’re taking a look at the King’s Cages 8002422 Playpen Bird Cage. This top-of-the-line cage offers some great features, and it is a great choice for medium-sized birds. You can make it the new home for your pet.

Even when looking at the basic features and specifications for the Kings Cages 8002422 Playpen Bird Cage, it’s hard not to be impressed. Like many of the King’s Cages products, the 8002422 is powder coated using the signature Five Tank Process. The powder coated finish helps make the cage stronger and more durable than competing models. It is incredibly long-lasting and a great investment for any serious birdkeeper.

With the 8002422 Cage, there are four (4) hinged doors. This includes three (3) smaller feeder doors that make it easy to feed your pet without them getting out, plus one (1) larger front access door that is used for adding and removing your pet. You can easily lock these doors to prevent your pet from getting out. The locks used on this cage are the 1334 Lock #6 and the 1337 Small Spring Lock #8. They are locked from the outside to prevent your pet from reaching them.

The 8002422 Cage front access door measures about (23.5) inches by (8) inches. The interior playroom height is about (30) inches, which gives your feathered friend plenty of space to move around. Each feeder door comes equipped with a (20) oz. stainless steel bowl, for a total of three (3) interior bowls. Hoop holders keep the bowls in-place. The play area on top of the cage also has two (2) smaller bowls that are half the size at (10) oz. each. There is one (1) wooden perch inside the cage, plus two (2) additional perches decorating the playpen top. Your beaked pal will also enjoy the two (2) playpen step ladders for some climbing fun.

The full dimensions for the 8002422 Cage are 24”L x 22”W x 63”H. The 63” height measures from the floor to the cage’s top perch. The inside grill to the inside tray is six (6) inches. The distance from the floor to the top tray is 52”, while the floor to the inside tray measures 15.5”. The floor to the first horizontal bar near the bottom of the cage is 5.5”. And the distance from the top tray to the top perch is 10.5”.

Other features for the King’s Cages 8002422 Playpen Cage include the finishing color options of Sandstone, Coppertone, Grey/Silver, White, and Black/Silver, and the two (2) slide-out trays or grills that allow for easy cleaning. There are also four (4) reflective flanged casters, or rollers, at the bottom of the cage. This allows the cage to be easily moved if needed. Bars at the bottom of the cage help to provide reinforcement.

The bar spacing for the cage is ⅝”, with the bar thickness being 4mm. You want to make sure that your bird is not small enough that they will be able to stick their neck through the cage and possibly become stuck.
